Art with a backbone

Pretty things can still have something to say.

I make art because I love beauty, color, history, and the thrill of turning an idea into something real. Creating is also a form of therapy for me. It gives my thoughts and emotions somewhere to go, which is one of the reasons I have always loved it.

I am drawn to controversial art because it can challenge comfortable ideas, begin difficult conversations, and say what people are sometimes afraid to say aloud. Some of my work is playful. Some of it is unsettling. All of it is honest.

Art does not always have to make people comfortable. Sometimes its job is to make them pay attention.

My Feminist Rage

This 36 by 24 inch mixed media painting began with a dream that stayed with me for years. I finally brought it to life for my Commonwealth Honors Program project at UMass Lowell, where it was the only painting presented among the student projects. I call her Gladys, an affectionate nod to my favorite show, Friends.

Gladys is a visual expression of suppressed emotion, internal pressure, and the quiet weight so many women carry. The fire is what builds beneath the surface, intense, consuming, and impossible to ignore. The duct tape represents silencing and the pressure to hold everything in. Smoke escapes from her shoulders while the charcoal and ash below her torso show what remains after that internal burn. Her body is not simply standing there. It is burning away.

I created this piece to speak without words and connect with women through what we endure, what we hold inside, and what we are too often expected to carry quietly.

You can digitally size your nails before or after placing an order. No purchase is required to request a scan.

Contact me and I will create a private SizeKit scanning link just for you. Each scanning link is connected to one customer, so please do not share it with anyone else.

Before you scan: Your nails must be completely clean and bare. Remove gel polish, press ons, extensions, and nail tips first. Product on the nail can distort the scan and cause an incorrect fit.

Have a coin ready: A U.S. quarter is recommended because it provides the best size comparison. Another clearly visible coin may be used if a quarter is unavailable. Keep the entire coin beside your nails and visible throughout the scan.

Keep your hand relaxed: Rest your hand naturally during the scan. Do not press your fingertips or nails down against the surface. Pressing down can flatten and widen the nail, which may cause the scan to record a larger size than you actually need.

Measure at home

Free. Measure each nail in millimeters using clear tape and a ruler, then submit your measurements with clear photos of both hands.

Physical sizing kit

$5, including shipping. Try every available size in your chosen shape and length. The $5 will be credited toward a custom nail set ordered within 30 days.

In person sizing

Free at participating craft fairs, farmers markets, and Atelier by Katina events. Visit my table to be professionally sized and save your measurements for future custom orders.

For the most accurate fit, I recommend a physical sizing kit in your selected shape and length. Upcoming event dates and locations will be added soon.

Every full nail set is reusable and includes one complimentary standard prep kit with nail glue, adhesive tabs, a mini file, a buffer, a wooden cuticle stick, one alcohol prep pad, and instructions.

Extra Nail Prep and Reapplication Kits are $6. Deluxe Reapplication Kits are $9 and include two nail glues, two sheets of adhesive tabs, four alcohol prep pads, a mini file, a buffer, and a wooden cuticle stick.

Final pricing depends on the requested design, length, charms, crystals, lace, intricate hand painting, molded three dimensional elements, and level of detail.

Free standard shipping is available on qualifying U.S. orders of $75 or more. Custom paintings, oversized resin pieces, rush orders, and items requiring special handling may have separate shipping charges. Basic sets may also be purchased locally and in person at participating events.

Order protection

Quality guarantee and returns

Every Atelier by Katina nail set is carefully inspected before packaging. If your order arrives damaged, defective, or different from what you ordered, contact me within seven days of delivery with clear photographs. I will determine whether a replacement nail, repair, replacement set, or refund is appropriate.

For sanitation reasons, nail sets cannot be returned or exchanged after the packaging has been opened or the nails have been applied. Custom nail sets are final sale.

Sizing errors caused by measurements submitted by the customer are not eligible for a refund or free replacement. If Atelier by Katina makes the sizing or design error, I will correct it.

Normal wear, accidental damage, improper application, improper removal, lost nails, and damage caused by glue or other products are not considered defects.

Resin gives me another way to explore color, transparency, texture, flowers, and stained glass inspired effects. This collection includes personal keepsakes, notebooks, decorative work, and functional pieces created around an idea or story.

Spring semester final project

Two paintings. One personal story.

These two paintings were created as my final art project for the spring semester. Together, they explore how identity can be expressed through ordinary objects, personal rituals, memory, family history, and reflection.

This painting looks at creativity through the artist's point of view. The hands become both the subject and the tools of creation, while the flowers, nail colors, jewelry, gold leaf, and personal objects form a portrait without showing a face. The bright color and raised floral texture celebrate the beauty of making something by hand. The Raymond Carver quotation brings the meaning inward, connecting the creative process with the desire to feel fully present, loved, and at home in one's own life.

This reflective surface painting brings several parts of my identity into one composition. My faint image appears in the headlight rather than at the center, suggesting that identity is shaped by everything surrounding us. The family names grow through the branches like a genealogical tree, while the Acropolis represents my Greek heritage and my connection to Greece. The yellow Plymouth Cuda belongs to my husband. I included it to honor him, show my appreciation for all his hard work, and recognize the life we have built together. The antique Massachusetts plate connects that gratitude with family history, place, memory, and my love of the past.

Portraits, multiple people or pets, detailed backgrounds, specialty materials, gold leaf, resin, and mixed media may increase the final price. Framing, packaging, delivery, and shipping are priced separately.

Each commission includes an initial consultation and two reasonable revision opportunities during the planning stage.

I am growing toward larger functional work, including one of a kind coffee tables and furniture that combine natural wood with resin. I plan to incorporate stained glass and Tiffany inspired color, pattern, light, and craftsmanship into pieces made for everyday spaces.

The artist behind the work

A new chapter, created by hand.

I have always been drawn to the places where art and storytelling meet. Whether I am designing a detailed set of nails, experimenting with resin, painting a landscape, or creating something completely unexpected, I love turning an idea into something that feels personal and full of character.

Atelier by Katina began during a season of change for my family. As my husband and I became recent empty nesters and our son began his own journey in the Army, I returned to school to continue studying history and art history. Creating became more than a hobby. It gave me a way to stay inspired, challenge myself, and build something of my own during this new chapter of our lives.

My love of history also reaches into genealogy. I am working toward certification in forensic genealogy, with a special interest in helping solve cold cases. My goal is to use careful research to restore identities, uncover connections, and give a voice to the voiceless.

Greece holds a deeply personal place in my heart. It is part of my family history and continues to inspire my artwork. Studying abroad there and visiting Lesvos, my Papouli's island, gave me the opportunity to experience the landscapes, villages, history, and light connected to my own roots. Those memories continue to find their way into my paintings and other creations, alongside the New England scenery and meaningful details from the past that have always inspired me. I do not believe creativity has to fit neatly into one category. This studio gives me the freedom to explore all of it.

I also have a deep love of stained glass and Tiffany design, from luminous color and leaded patterns to elegant details and timeless craftsmanship. I plan to bring those influences into future nail art, resin work, paintings, and larger pieces, allowing light, color, and texture to become part of the work itself.

I am especially excited to grow into larger functional pieces that combine wood and resin. I imagine creating coffee tables and other one of a kind furniture that bring art into the everyday spaces where people gather and make memories.

I welcome custom nail sets, commissioned paintings, resin pieces, and other personal creations. Some may be bold and playful. Others may carry a memory, celebrate a new beginning, or simply bring a little more beauty into an ordinary day. Materials and allergy notice

Atelier by Katina creations may contain gel polish, acrylates, resin, pigments, paint, ink, glitter, metal, crystals, dried flowers, wood, adhesives, sealants, and other decorative or mixed media materials. These materials may cause irritation or allergic reactions in some individuals. Ingredient information for included adhesive products is provided on the original product packaging.

Use every item only for its intended purpose. Keep creations and adhesives away from children, pets, heat, and open flames. Nail glue must also be kept away from cotton, wool, clothing, and other fabrics because contact with certain fabrics can generate heat and cause burns.

Do not apply nail products to irritated, injured, infected, or visibly damaged nails or skin. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and surrounding skin. Use adhesive products only as directed by the manufacturer. Stop use immediately if redness, swelling, itching, blistering, burning, or other irritation occurs. Seek medical advice if symptoms continue or become severe.

Individual sensitivities vary. Atelier by Katina cannot guarantee that any creation is completely free from allergens. Please contact the studio before ordering if you have a known material allergy or sensitivity.
